Last week we released the full event of "Headlock on Hunger 4" from 2006 as a full playlist on our YouTube channel. It was an epic event that led to the formation of "Stars & Stripes Wrestling" later that year. One of the matches from that event was a classic match between "Picture Perfect" Remy Rainz and "The Urban Luchador" Rudo Cortez.
Remy and Rudo have a long and storied history together in the Midwest wrestling scene, having both been foes and friends over the many years they have been in the industry. Their rivalry started in other promotions prior to their respective debuts in SSW, where it rose to a fever pitch and boiled over at "Headlock on Hunger 4". It was a bitter cold winter night in Kenosha on February 18th of 2006, a much more cocky Remy Rainz would square off against fan-favorite Rudo Cortez in our featured match:
That rivalry continued for a long time forward, until the two competitors settled their stalemate and joined forces as the tag team "Los Mexicanos", where they would go on to win multiple tag team championships, including here in SSW. Along the way, Rudo would win the SSW Championship, and Remy held one of the longest winning streaks in SSW history, successfully defending the "SyberSlam" championship for over 2 straight years.
In the years since the "Stars & Stripes" era, Rudo Cortez and Remy Rainz have diverted paths, with Rudo now retired from the ring. Remy, on the other hand, has recently resurrected his career, returning to the SSW roster as a full-time active wrestler in 2015. Though now on separate paths, friendship will always be a sacred bond for these two men. This was proven at our 12th Anniversary event this past May when Rudo would return to the ring and save his long-time friend from a post-match assault by Devin Diamond and Dave Rydell. The two would celebrate together in the ring one last time, proving that the bond of friendship and respect can never be broken.
