On Sunday, January 29th, 2017, SSW Pro Wrestling kicked off the new year with "Game of Gold". This event saw the conclusion of the 2016 "Lords of the Ring" tournament, every SSW title put on the line, and as always a ton of surprises!
Before the show began, SSW owner RJ Daniels addressed the crowd to make them aware of some big changes that had to be made unfortunately to the show, in that of Vic Capri being injured and unable to defend the SSW title. Also, that SSW fan favorite, Marshe Rockett, could not appear due to being involved in a car accident the night prior (thankfully, no one was hurt), and that Jeff Luxon was ill and unable to team with Ryan Kross to challenge for the tag team titles.
It was also announced that due to the postponement of the show from back in December, that the "Lords of the Ring" tournament would be truncated from a full 7-match bracket, and into 2 "fatal four-way" matches, with the winner going on to the final match later in the show.

WILLIAM JACOBS def. Ruff Crossing, GQ, and Shane Fury in a fatal 4-way, to advance to the finals of the "Lords of the Ring" tournament
CHRIS LOGAN def. Pauly Thomaselli, via pinfall, to become the new Midwest Heritage Champion, after a distraction by Joey Avalon & Max Holiday. Ryan Kross came to Pauly's aid, and announced him as his new tag partner for the night. GRIN def. Ben McCoy, Marcello Spade, and Shighire Irie in a fatal 4-way, to advance to the finals of the "Lords of the Ring" tournament DDS def. Pat Monix and Storm Grayson, via pinfall, to retain the SSW Triple-Threat Championship RYAN KROSS & PAULY THOMASELLI def. Joey Avalon & Max Holiday, via pinfall in their tag team contest. Unfortunately, the titles were not on the line due to a contractual dispute by the champions, and thus Avalon and Holiday retained the titles GRIN def. William Jacobs, via pinfall, to win the 2016 "Lords of the Ring" tournament, and the SSW Championship. |
Of course, after the conclusion of the SSW Championship match, Vic Capri came to the ring to award the SSW title belt to Grin. After a few moments raising the arm of the new champ, Vic Capri shocked everyone and slammed the title belt into the face of the new champ, sending him crashing to the mat. He then proceeded to grab the mic and chastise the management of SSW, particularly owner RJ Daniels. Vic roared that it was "BS" he was not allowed to defend the SSW title because he "didn't have a doctor's note", or that he was somehow a liability due to his injury. He then slammed the title belt down on Grin as he lay on mat, and stormed off to close out the show.
