Last Sunday, it was another epic night of pro wrestling at The Brat Stop in Kenosha, as SSW Pro Wrestling presented our "Eyes on the Prize" event! As always, it was a day of great wrestling attended by awesome fans, as well as thrilling and shocking moments from some of the best wrestlers in the midwest...and all of whom were fighting for a chance to obtain gold here in SSW!
The opening contest would be the first of four matches in the quarter-final round of the 2015 "Lords of the Ring" tournament. Ruff Crossing would face off against Daryck St. Holmes, Esq in a definite clash of styles in a "brawler" versus a "mat technician", respectively. For the majority of the match, St. Holmes would use his technical prowess to keep Ruff on the mat in various submission holds. But Ruff was able to "outwit" the "smartest man in wrestling" with, catching St. Holmes for a pinfall with an unexpected roll-up after dodging from the corner. Thus, Ruff Crossing advances to the semi-finals in the tournament, and will take on the winner of the next match.
The second quarter-final round match would have "Shogun" Chris Logan taking on "Elite" EJ Jensen. Shogun came to the ring along with the new SSW tag champs, and his "running buddies" of Shane Fury and Marcello Spade, and they informed the world that they were now to be referred to as "The Refinement Club", and there were setting their sights on all the gold in SSW. Unfortunately for EJ, he was just the first in line to fall on their proposed path to conquest in SSW, as Marcello would hit EJ with a double knee as Fury distracted the ref, allowing Shogun to get the pinfall victory and advance to the semi-finals on December 27th, where he will face Ruff Crossing.
After the match, Shogun, Fury, and Spade would proceed to assault EJ relentlessly, until Vic Capri rushed the ring and chased them off. Unfortunately, Fury left his tag team title belt in the ring, which Vic grabbed and attempted to lure him back in to get. After a few minutes of a stale mate with Vic, "The Refinement Club" headed backstage, leaving Vic alone in the ring, much to the approval of the crowd.
The third quarter-final match would see "High-Priest" William Jacobs take on Greeko "GQ" Suave in nothing short of an epic battle between two of the most athletically gifted young competitors in SSW. After multiple back and forth swings in the match that took place both inside and outside of the ring, "GQ" held on to his undefeated streak and put down Jacobs for a pinfall after another devastating "Grecian Destroyer". GQ of course advances to the semi-finals, to take on the winner of the next contest.
In the fourth and final quarter-final match, former SSW champ "Icepick" Vic Capri would take on the current SSW Lightning Division Champion, "The Future" Matt Dewar. Once again, Capri would find himself opposite the ring from one of Devin Diamond's clients, but having a long history with his group, Capri was able to expect anything and everything. What he didn't see coming was Shane Fury appearing at ringside, who grabbed Vic's leg as he attempted to jump off the turnbuckle. This allowed Dewar an opening and he dropkicked him off the top rope and out to ringside. As Dewar tried to pull Vic back in the ring, Vic jumped over Dewar and attempted to roll Dewar up for a pin. Devin held Dewar's arms, until referee JP kicked his hands off. Dewar rolled out of the pin, only to get caught in Vic's "IceCrusher" for the pinfall, and thus Vic would advance to the semi-finals to take on GQ on December 27th. After the match, both Vic and JP would take shots at Devin, and Dewar would head backstage without his manager.
Up next would be the long-awaited "#1 Contendership Match" between two of Devin Diamond's clients, in that of Pauly Thomaselli and Dave Rydell, where the winner will challenge the SSW Champion at "Lords of the Ring" on December 27th. For months, Pauly and Rydell have been at odds (read more here) until both men won their respective "Beat the Clock" challenges to earn this #1 contenders match. Both men payed homage to one of the greatest matches ever, in that of "Macho Man" Randy Savage versus Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat back at WrestleMania 3. And this match did not disappoint, with Dave Rydell defeating Pauly with a quick a roll-up to become the #1 contender to the SSW title. After the match, Devin told his clients that they need to put their differences aside, and unify to bring back the SSW title to their group. With that, Pauly raised Rydell's hand in victory, and it looks like Devin's family is once again unified in their quest to dominate SSW!
It was then time for the main event of the night, where Shane Fury would challenge Marshe Rockett for the SSW Championship. Before the match began, "Shogun" Chris Logan would give his brother a "pep talk" to fire him up, until he headed backstage. This left Fury with his tag partner, Marcello Spade at ringside for support. During the match, neither competitor held anything back, and it appear on a few occasions that Fury may have had the champ figured out, getting a near fall on the champ. But, when the chips were down for Fury, Marcello took a cheap shot at the champ at ringside, causing the referee to eject him from ringside. Once the odds were even, Marshe showed Fury exactly why he was the SSW champ in elegant style. But, as Marshe was attempting to set Fury up for his "M80", Shogun and Spade rushed the ring and attacked the champ, causing the match to end in a disqualification.
As the three assaulted Marshe, Vic Capri rushed the ring in attempt to save the champ, but, he was cut-off by the tag champs, and brought to the mat and the three continued their assault on both men. Shortly after, the stage lights went out, and a loud roar of a jet engine was sounded. Then, unexpectedly, Fuel Pro Wrestling's Joey "Jet" Avalon appeared on stage, and the crowd erupted in "Joey" chants. Joey rushed the ring and chased "The Refinement Club" to ringside.
This allowed Marshe and Vic to regain their composure, and the three stood at the ready to take on "The Refinement Club" at any moment.
SSW owner RJ Daniels came to ringside, and announced that he knew that Shogun, Fury, and Spade were going to be up to no good, and that he asked Joey Avalon to come down as his "Ace". Avalon lost his match against Shogun at Fuel Pro Wrestling on November 15th (read more), due to interference by Shane Fury, thus he was looking to settle that score and RJ was willing to oblige. RJ made an impromptu 3-on-3 tag team match, where Marshe and Vic would team with Avalon to take on Shogun, Fury and Spade. In this epic brawl, "The Refinement Club" would take thier first hit, after a series of signature moves from all competitors would allow Vic Capri to score the pinfall on Marcello Spade, after an "ice-driver" on the tag champ.
In the end, Marshe Rockett and Vic Capri stood triumphant alongside Joey "Jet" Avalon over "The Refinement Club" in one of the most unexpected post-main-event matches in the history of SSW. Now, with just one short month to go until our year-end spectacular, chaos is in full effect once again in SSW, and at "Lords of the Ring" on December 27th, it is almost certain that this war has just begun, and "The Refinement Club" will be looking for retaliation.
